About Hassan Joho
The man, the journey, the vision. From Kisauni to Kenya's Cabinet.
A Leader Born of the Coast
Hassan Ali Joho was born on 26 February 1973 in Kisauni, Mombasa County — a bustling coastal neighbourhood where the Indian Ocean meets centuries of Swahili culture and trade. Growing up in modest circumstances, Joho's early life was shaped by the resilience and communal spirit of the Coast.
His formal education began at Tom Mboya Primary School, though his schooling was interrupted at one point due to financial hardship — a formative experience that would later drive his passion for youth education and the Joho Foundation. He later attended Serani Boys Secondary School in Mombasa, where he took on odd jobs to support himself through Form 3.
Before politics, Joho was already building an entrepreneurial legacy. He founded Prima Pest & Bins Limited, pioneering professional waste management in Mombasa, and later expanded into shipping, logistics, and manufacturing through East African Terminals Limited and M-Tech Kenya Limited.
